Overview

Criteria for Inclusion
All of the businesses featured in this edition have been specially selected to appear in Key British Enterprises. A panel of experts established the criteria that needed to be met in order to qualify as a Key British Enterprises. Every business within this book meets at least one of the criteria.

Key British Enterprises 2009 features:

  • All UK businesses with 80 or more employees
  • OR All UK businesses with a sales turnover in excess of 8.8 million
  • OR All UK businesses with total assets in excess of 30 million

Format
Volumes 1-3 of Key British Enterprises list the 50,000 companies alphabetically, with full company information throughout.

Volume 4 - provides cross-referencing to the 50,000 companies. Contact details for a company listed can be referenced by company name, by city or county and by line of business. This volume also provides extra cross-referencing by export markets and directors’ names. Volume 4 also contains the British Business rankings, selecting the 5,000 largest employers from volumes 1-3 and ranks them by sales, employees, by county and within line of business.

Business Listings
A standard business entry in Key British Enterprises includes nearly thirty pieces of information. These are listed below. However it is not always possible to collect every piece of information. For instance sales turnover and profit figures may not be available or there may be no parent company or export markets. Therefore to show the incidence and quality of each data element a percentage figure is given next to each which indicates the number of business records that do not have the particular data element. This provides you with further insight into the data that you have at your fingertips.
